Meet the AIOZ team: Hien Nguyen, Head of Blockchain
As our community continues to grow, we want to bring you close to our team. The people that, alongside you, are making the AIOZ Network project possible. As such, we have started a new “Meet the team” segment in our blog in which we will interview the core team members that are pushing the AIOZ Network forward.
In our first series, we introduce you to Hien Nguyen, Head of Blockchain, responsible for the Blockchain technology department of the AIOZ Network. In this interview, we learn more about his background in the industry, explore how Hien joined the team, and its primary functions within the project.
Keep reading to learn more about Hien Nguyen and his views on the AIOZ Network, blockchain technology, and the broader cryptocurrency scene!
Can you describe your function in the AIOZ Network as head of Blockchain?
We all have different roles and responsibilities within the company. However, we all do so with the “All for one and one for all” motto in mind, which means we all support each other in any aspect at work. With that being said, I am primarily responsible for planning, designing, and managing the entire AIOZ Network — a challenging and ambitious project.
Before launching this project officially, I researched other blockchain-related technologies deeply in order to learn how this industry has been developing and the potential aspects of the technology that can still be uncovered and pursued.
My team and I held constant technical meetings regarding the latest threat intelligence technologies that are being used to mitigate the cyber attack vectors faced in the development of the AIOZ Network infrastructure (e.g., system hacking, farming $AIOZ on AIOZ.Tube and DDoS attacks). We also brainstormed in implementing solutions to optimize the AIOZ Network, especially when it comes to scalability, security, and network speed.
Why did you join the AIOZ Network project?
I have encountered numerous problems throughout the many years working in the technology space, specifically in video streaming areas. How to minimize expenses and scale-up video streaming systems are two of the main concerns in this space. On top of that, the phenomenal growth of high-speed Internet connectivity, coupled with an increasing number of Internet-based platforms/services and data proliferation, require a pragmatic technical solution that facilitates content storage and distribution at high speed. Moreover, the fact that data systems of different organizations on the same platform have not been in sync yet acts as a deterrent against building a digital economy.
The emergence of blockchain technology has opened up the opportunity to build completely new digital and peer-to-peer economic systems. I began looking for basic information about this tech, including consensus mechanisms and governance models, smart contracts, and more.
In the past decade, viewers’ preference for digital media content via typical streaming platforms such as Youtube, TikTok, Spotify, Clubhouse, Twitch and Netflix have grown significantly, which has led these platforms to become the main entertainment source for the majority of people, including me. I’m sure you can relate as well.
However, these platforms have started to manifest weaknesses when it comes to streaming quality and latency problems. Moreover, most of the current streaming platforms work based on a centralized content delivery network (CDN) (e.g. Akamai, Amazon S3, Google Cloud); and thus, they are facing important issues like scalability and operating costs, especially within today’s era of online data proliferation and the increase in demands for video-on-demand applications.
As such, I realized the potential in combining blockchain technology with streaming. By using idle resources of computers and other electronic devices we can generate an “infinitely scalable and reasonably priced dCDN” which is a great opportunity for our company, one that comes with its challenges, of course, but that we are eager to overcome. That is how the AIOZ Network was born.
What did you work on prior to joining the AIOZ Network?
Well, let me introduce a bit about my journey before I joined AIOZ. I graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Sciences, Vietnam National University, with an honorary degree. This is where I yielded a lot of achievements in many programming contests such as ACM/ICPC Vietnam National Contest and National Olympiad for Top Coders. Besides, the time that I conducted research focusing on Interactive Video in the Computer Vision Lab at HCMUS provided me with valuable experience in image and video streaming & processing.
Before joining the AIOZ Network project, I had a few years of working experience as a project manager in two interesting projects: one was about ERP software, which incorporates a smart A.I. routing delivery full stack solution for a Singapore logistic company, and the other one was the project where we integrated and applied Kurento and Jitsi framework media servers to develop a video conferencing system. Via the latter, I had a chance to understand the newest video streaming technologies (e.g. WebRTC, Kurento Media Server) and learned a lot about the video streaming industry.
My first-hand experiences in video streaming, coupled with the fact that video conferencing systems will inevitably face scalability and cost problems in the future, makes me believe that AIOZ Network’s model for dCDN leveraging p2p streaming and blockchain incentives has immense potential given that it makes use of ubiquitous spare resources (bandwidth, hardware) for video/audio/live streaming platforms and decentralized storage solutions.
What is your favorite aspect of working at AIOZ?
The aspect that I love the most while working at AIOZ is the perseverance of the whole team. All of us have two things in common which are the passion in technology and the desire to contribute to the development of technologies that support online businesses via minimizing operating expenses and building infrastructures for overall dCDNs. I believe these common points aroused an astonishing resolution and effort that only a handful of people possess. Thanks to that, AIOZ Network has progressively gained initial success and continues going on the forward trajectory.
What are your thoughts on the AIOZ Network and its impact/importance on the industry?
As far as I know, only AIOZ Network has been able to build a fully functional peer-to-peer dCDN based on Blockchain technology. I believe that AIOZ Network is a game-changer in the realm of streaming platforms and will spur a re-evolution in this area in the near future. Once the AIOZ Network is fully built, d-Apps and video streaming platforms can work on our dCDN efficiently and at a low cost.
Moreover, viewers residing in remote and rural areas can access high-quality video content without experiencing streaming quality or latency issues. Content creators, viewers, and advertisers will also have more avenues to disseminate unique values through the AIOZ Network blockchain, tokenizations, and NFTs. Most importantly, people will be able to earn passive income by becoming node operators and monetize their previously-idle computing resources. All these benefits cannot be implemented by traditional CDNs.
How important do you think blockchain technology is?
I think blockchain is a technological breakthrough that will positively change the way societies interact and operate in the forthcoming years. Without a doubt, blockchain provides users with security, privacy, decentralization, scalability, and most importantly, transparency — the property that facilitates daily activities on the Internet (making payment, making financial transactions, and so forth) with neither intervention of any third parties nor risk of leaking personal data. With blockchain tech, almost every process will be conducted effectively, automatically, and transparently.
Closing thoughts?
Thank you for giving me this chance to share my thoughts. Blockchain in general and AIOZ Network, in particular, are developing technologies. However, we strongly believe that the success of blockchain technology is inevitable and we concur that the AIOZ network is currently on the right development journey. We are working relentlessly to deliver the best streaming quality to users across the globe with the most affordable dCDN costs. We intend to achieve our vision in the coming years.
About the AIOZ Network
The AIOZ Network is a Layer-1 Blockchain-based Content Delivery Network that is about to bring a revolution to the entertainment industry.
AIOZ Network utilizes Blockchain for better content distribution by leveraging the power of decentralization. Unlike the traditional data centers operating on a centralized model. distributed Content Delivery Network (dCDN) uses Nodes for storing, streaming, and transferring data.
The AIOZ Network uses a faster, cheaper, and more robust infrastructure for content streaming making it more affordable, faster. This allows the AIOZ Network to provide a higher quality service.
By using this revolutionary technology, the AIOZ Network can efficiently change the way the world streams content of all sorts, improving the quality of life of many and shaping the re-evolution of information and knowledge for future generations.
